Page and Moy Building, Leicester

Parmers Estates

Before we were involved there was a plan to knock the pair of 1960’s buildings down because the floors were at different heights and the buildings were too deep in plan to do anything with. The client had been told it couldn’t be refurbished or converted.

So with that challenge in mind and after a long weekend of work, the key to the project’s success as a whole was to form these clever stepped links between a central corridor and then form a light well in the middle of the building to unlock the whole previously constricted plan. Given that the buildings were set back off London Road, we felt that the building could take another floor on top and that we could complete the site enclosure by forming a new building at the rear of the site.

The project was completed in a year with JA Ball as the contractors and the result is a fully let 111 bed building just in time for last years’ intake at De Monfort University. Caroline Watkinson worked her magic through planning and Andy Hallam at Hallam Read made sure it came in on time and budget. Well done us!
