Staff Club House – The University of Nottingham

The University of Nottingham asked us to extend what is one of the most used buildings on campus by staff; a place where academics and heads of department can meet and socialise and exchange ideas over lunch.

The brief was to extend the existing building in a sympathetic manner; which is a real challenge given the backdrop to the location and the clientele. It took a lot of sensitive tweaking and remodelling to get the scale and proportions right to achieve a  simple yet elegant building.

We managed to emulate the spirit of Edwardian architecture and make the extension look as if had always been there, however, on the inside we opened up the large roof space to create a really light and uplifting space that is well used by university staff and the public for private reception parties.

The extension and existing building sit very well in the beautiful landscaped grounds and we are very proud of this modest project.
