Located in West Bridgford, a wealthy Nottingham suburb, this site was purchased by Brooklyn Properties for the construction of a number of conventional three-bedroomed houses.
The site appraisal led us to recommend one and two-bedroomed apartments over single houses. This presented the opportunity to make a higher value architectural statement leading to a higher value property. However, we knew that the prevalence of Victorian buildings, combined with unsuccessful developments in the area, would make planning application difficult for anything other than a conservative design.
We developed the project in an open, confident and sensitive manner. We communicated personally with both planners and local councillors, giving them the opportunity to talk through any issues or concerns.
Our first planning application was approved, leading to one of the most successful contemporary buildings in West Bridgford. It consists of 20 one and two-bedroomed apartments and two penthouses, and the design has added significant value to the units. Here we produced a profitable contemporary development in what was a very conservative area.
